Penang Food Trip

10:01

A long overdue travelogue and also probably the longest post for 2019.
24/7 eating and walking and eating again, hope you don't get hungry while looking at the next pictures.

Went with my buddy Fidelia and here's our our non-stop food adventure!

Day 1 - Penang Touchdown

First things first. Breakfast!

Checked in to out Hotel at Urban H Penang and realised we still have enough time to eat at Roti Canai Transfer Road, which was just a 5 minutes walk from where we were staying.

This place opens only in the morning and closes early, so the day started out pretty well, in my opinion.

Dim Sum

This street was filled with tourists and was super crowded, yet the food disappoints.
I thought it'll be super nice but there was not much flavour to the chendol.

Found this off Google maps, and found alot of reviews about this Ais Tingkap. I honestly felt this was not so memorable, but as a tourist, you're just inclined to try everything you can try in a new country. Well, you can still give it a go if you're thirsty and around the area.

Ming Xiang Tai Bakery --- the place that we spent most of our money to, I guess.. buying for other people as souvenirs too.

After a day out to sightsee, we had our supper of Kway Teow Thng at Chulia Street

Day 2 - Heritage Trail

Heavy breakfast? No problem..
We headed to Nasi Kandar Line Clear for this gravy-licious plate of Mamak Goodness.
This was the food that I feared the most while I was researching, as it looks really oily and heavy in the Internet pictures, and then I found out like, oh, it is similar to a Nasi Padang concept in SG!

Just felt curry tastes half more awesome in Penang for its richer flavour.

Got this tip to try the Tiramisu in this cafe, and so we did!
Verdict: I still like chocolate more oops.

China House

Chanced upon this Peranakan fare while we were walking around finding dinner. Overall I feel this is more "homey"and worth it than the other Peranakan restaurants in Penang because most of the others only serve it in sets, which can be quite pricey.

Some dessert to fulfill our tastes.

Day 3 --- Morning Market

Travelled a little further out of town for that day, to explore famous noodles only opened in the mornings.

Here's a little of what it looked like, we ate by the roadsides and served by these two cute ladies.

While we're walking randomly around the market area, we also passed by this Muah Chee Stall and omg, I am in love with it. Since it is morning, the dough is new and still warm, it just melts in your mouth, literally.

Evening and we're here to explore more local flavours. If I'm not wrong we actually found out about this place from a taxi uncle, good find :)

Ordered a portion of Hokkien Mee, and Lor Mee each. Pretty much reminds me of my primary school canteen's serving of their lor mee.

Kind of still not full so I had another serving of half-fried, half-soupy wanton. Great closing for the night.

Last Day!
Heart Shaped Waffles and Shakshuka for breakfast sounds like my typical kind of food, but yes I need that western diet in my life at least once a week I'd say.
